Myofascial Release resonated with me deeply for 2 core reasons: 1. IT IS BODY KIND - it never forces; and, 2. IT IS HOLISTIC - completely individualized care.

Peggy Owens, PT, MPH, MFR Therapist

Hi, my name is Peg Owens.  I want to share with you a little about who I am, and how I got to where I am.  I am, by trade, a physical therapist who has blended my western studies with the authentic practice of myofascial and cranial sacral therapies.

I have 23 years combined experience in acute, outpatient, and home health settings. Additionally, with my Master’s in Public Health In Health Administration,  I managed a physical therapy staff in Sports Medicine for 2 years and in acute hospital settings for 7 years.  In 2010, I attended my first myofascial seminar under world renown lecturer of the technique, John F. Barnes, PT, LMT.  It was there that a “Quantum shift” occurred in my understanding of pain dysfunction and healing.

Myofascial release (MFR) resonated with me on many levels:

*it is body kind——it never forces;

*it is holistic.....completely individualized care........treating a human being and not a body part;

*everyone has the ability and capacity to heal given the right environment;

*the therapist is only the catalyst to your healing; and,

*through gentle touch, “You get a deeper connection where true healing takes place”.

I was excited and ready to move on with this specialized manual therapy. I had, at last, found my passion and purpose in life! I have passionately pursued the advancement of my skills and knowledge (+ 400 hours) in MFR and adult, newborn, and pediatric cranial sacral therapy. MFR and cranial sacral therapies (CST) are the most innovative, non-invasive techniques in the health care field today for pain relief

And overall well-being. They are the “missing link” to getting clients to live a permanent PAIN-FREE life.

I promote independence through education in MFR, CS, postural awareness and proper body mechanics. I believe in empowering my clients with self-help tools which may include fascial stretching exercises to ease pain and tension, breathing techniques, core stabilization, and neuro-muscular exercises to strengthen weakened areas.

I have been intrigued with human movement and performance since 1981 when I began running and participating in triathlons in 1985. These sports have served as a barometer for my health and overall well-being. To run you must be centered; to compete in triathlons demands perseverance and being present. MFR has helped me with treating my own injuries, aches and pains. It has become an integral part of my life in myofascial self care stretching and being treated by another therapist on a regular basis. It has literally CHANGED THE WAY MY BODY FEELS ALL THE TIME.

Formal physical therapy school was the western left brain science part of my training. The "practice of myofascial release" developed and deepened my intuition. Success as a MFR therapist requires a depth of scientific understanding BALANCED by a keen sense intuition. It is all summarized by the following statement: Steeped in the Arts, Balanced by Science.
